Know Before You Go!

Not all limo companies and black car services are what they say they are. Many services do not have all the proper permits, licensing, insurance, or government operating authority. While that may sometimes lead to enticing rates or offers, the truth is that these types of operators are providing unlawful, reckless, and dangerous service to a sometimes unsuspecting public. We pride ourselves on being among the legitimate companies offering chauffeured transportation services. We feel it is our obligation to share with you some helpful ways to ensure that we are what we say we are!

This page should provide all the info and details you need to confidently book your transportation with us. Should you still require further assistance or have any questions, please reach out to us at Info@LuxTran.net or text at 216-505-0534. Thanks!

  • Lux Transport has been a proud member of the NLA since 2020. Our member number is 64410244.

Although NLA membership doesn’t 100% guarantee that you are dealing with a fully legitimate company, it certainly lends some credibility to a company. The NLA provides great resources and education to help us stay relevant and provide the highest levels of services to our customers. We especially prefer to support other member companies wherever possible if booking transportation for our customers outside of our service area. The NLA has conferences and events throughout the year which allow us to meet these other legitimate operators that we would partner with for you.

  • Lux Transport LLC is extremely proud to be a founding member of OCTA. Full disclosure: The owner of Lux Transport is also the founding Treasurer of OCTA.

You can inherently trust any operator in Ohio that is an active member of OCTA. Why? Because OCTA is the ONLY state, regional, or national limo association to require that its operator members provide proof of the proper levels of insurance to operate, the proper and active State of Ohio passenger-carrier registration through the PUCO, and the proper and active Federal passenger-carrier registration through the US Department of Transportation (USDOT).

What does that mean for you as a consumer? Peace of mind that you are dealing with a professional company that cares about safety and following the rules. Sure beats guessing and hoping that just because a business has a phone number, a website, and a vehicle that you are going to be receiving the proper and highly regulated service that you should be!

Find out more and search for other “legitimate” operators at the OCTA website: https://OhioCTA.org.

  • Lux Transport has been independently verified by Safe Limos, the first and only 3rd party verification system in the passenger transportation industry. Members submit to an application process that includes verification of local, state, and federal credentials.

The extensive vetting program by SafeLimos helps ensure that we are operating legally and within their code of conduct. Our participation shows you that our company is different from most and can help you rest easy by choosing us for your transportation needs!

  • The OHIO BMV has a special license plate that can only be purchased and displayed by limo operators who prove the commercial registration, proper insurance, and seating capacity of each registered vehicle. You can use this as another way to ensure your limo operator is legitimate.

If you do not see the word “LIVERY” or “LIVERY VEH” on the license plate below the plate number where the county name is usually displayed, and the vehicle seats 15 or fewer passengers (which would usually then have a “TRUCK” designation), the vehicle is not a limo.

Please also note this unique feature available to vehicles with livery plates: Legally permissible adult passengers in the second and third rows of the vehicle are 100% allowed to bring and have open containers of alcoholic drinks (“adult beverages”) and consume them during a trip!

You can rest assured knowing that Lux Transport operates with proper livery plates. They also happen to be “vanity” plates, which helps further identify a vehicle in a crowd.

  • Companies such as ours that do not own vehicles larger than an SUV or that do not seat more than 8 passengers (including the chauffeur) are mandated to carry $1.5 million combined single limit liability insurance, which we currently carry through Forge Insurance (formerly Amalgamated Casualty).

Companies who own larger vehicles are required to carry $5 million combined single limit liability insurance.

Any limo company you decide to work with should be forthcoming with their insurance details and carry the proper and true commercial insurance for their owned fleet.

  • Many regulatory databases are publicly available to search and a limo company should be transparent with their company numbers and regulatory filings, unless they have something to hide.

Lux Transport LLC is registered for interstate operation and is authorized for-hire for passenger transport.

    USDOT #3385893

    MC #01089416

Ohio PUCO Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) #00606315

All for-hire motor carriers that operate point-to-point in Ohio are required to have a CPCN from the PUCO before beginning operations. Intrastate motor carriers must renew their CPCN annually and keep all company and insurance information on file with the PUCO current. Motor carriers that instead operate in interstate commerce must keep their CPCN active by filing and paying their Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) fee annually. You may check the CPCN status of Lux Transport or any other motor carrier HERE.

You may also search for any legitimate operator’s Federal DOT status via the Company Snapshot on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) SAFER Web HERE. You can easily search by USDOT # or else by company name. At the very least, a proper limo operator should ideally be listed as “Active”, shown as Authorized “For-Hire” for passenger transport, and their MCS-150 form should show having been updated within the past 2 years.

Finally, although our current fleet does not meet the actual definition of a “Commercial Motor Vehicle” as outlined by the FMCSA and as set forth in the United Carrier Registration (UCR) Act (49 U.S. Code § 31101), we are still considered a “For-Hire Passenger Motor Carrier” and ARE REQUIRED to register with UCR due to our interstate operation status; We are currently registered with UCR through 2023.

  • Our current owned fleet consists of a Ford Expedition Max (Limited Stealth Edition). It is loaded with every option available from Ford for the safety, comfort, and convenience of clients. This “Flagship SUV” of our fleet has a bench 2nd row and thus allows up to 7 passengers (not including the chauffeur). 3rd row legroom is industry-leading and there is ample cargo room for luggage. Following CDC guidelines for COVID, there is also a very tactful acrylic divider placed between the front and 2nd rows.

We also partner with a few fully legal and compliant local Independent Operators who run late model Suburban and Escalade SUVs (to mention a few). Should scheduling conflicts require outside assistance, or should you need us to assist with more vehicles than available within our own fleet, we would happily offer up these other vetted vehicles to support your request!

As we believe in full transparency, you will always be shown when a “Partner/Affiliate” vehicle and chauffeur is serving you rather than a Lux Transport owned and operated vehicle.

  • Many of the larger airports require a permit which allows a commercial entity to pick up and drop off paying passengers. Cleveland Hopkins Airport (CLE) is one such facility and they charge permit holders a $4 fee each time a registered vehicle arrives on airport property.

Be mindful that some operators appear to ignore this permit requirement and are then entering airport property against the rules, risking a ticket, fine, and/or ban from further operating at CLE.

Lux Transport is fully permitted and authorized for limo service at CLE, which can be verified HERE. The $4 fee is included as a pass-through charge to you on any CLE airport trips.

We also fully service the following local airports and FBOs that do not require permits: BKL, CAK, and CGF.

Some airports that are within 2.5 hours of Cleveland have a permit process or registration that specifically regulates pick up service. Given the infrequency of such requests, we currently only provide drop off service for these locations: PIT, TOL, DTW, CMH, OSU, LCK, and ERI. Should your travels require you to frequent any of these listed airports and you would prefer Lux Transport to pick you up, we will gladly explore obtaining the necessary permits to serve you.

  • All rates are variable and are dependent upon the start and end locations. We also employ low-level dynamic pricing—similar to airlines and hotels—which means that usually you will get the best rate by booking well in advance when there is greater availability.

Our charges are transparent and will be shown by line item. This typically includes the base calculated rate, an industry standard 20% gratuity, state-required sales tax, any airport fees (minimum of $4 for CLE), any tolls, and a variable fuel surcharge. There will not be hidden or surprise fees and the only variation to what will be originally quoted will be due to customer changes to the reservation (extra stops, extra time, wait time, etc). Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for full billing and charge details.

Transfers/Point-to-point trips are fully calculated by mileage, including distance from and to the garage location.

Hourly trips are fully calculated by time, including the time it takes to go from and to the garage. The minimum is 2 hours Monday through Thursday and 3 hours Friday through Sunday.

We will be happy to provide a quote based on your specific needs. You can easily request a no-obligation quote HERE.

  • The state of Ohio requires all passenger transportation companies to charge sales tax for the service. Any company that is not charging tax is not operating legitimately.

You will see sales tax properly shown as a line item on all quotes and reservations from Lux Transport.

  • Any good limo company will be forthcoming and have their full set of Terms and Conditions available for review. You can view our Terms and Conditions HERE.

  • We proudly utilize the Moovs reservation and dispatch software to process quotes, create reservations, and handle all the communication and billing for trips. There are many useful software systems available to the limo industry and this seemed to be the one that would allow us to serve you best. We feel that it is more professional, transparent, and helpful to us and our customers than relying on just a phone calendar to keep track of everything, like some smaller limo operators still do.

It also makes it more convenient for you to head to our website and create a quote or book your own reservation at any hour of the day. And once you have an account created, you can login and easily manage all your account details and trips/reservations.

Having the Moovs software also allows us the ability to reserve and manage chauffeured transportation (“car service”) outside of the Cleveland area and practically wherever you travel to. You may send us the details (like the destination hotel or address) and we can handle finding another like-minded and legitimate company to assist you at your destination. You can spend less time stressing over transportation details and more time planning some fun for your time away!

  • Through a partnership with another operator in Cleveland, we have completed Pax training and certification in 2021. We support ongoing training and knowledge, where available.

  • Next to the vehicle itself, the chauffeur is the major public-facing image of a limo operator. You should want a chauffeur who is dressed well, groomed well, and is an all-around professional in and out of the vehicle.

Our male chauffeurs wear a black suit, white shirt, dark or red tie, and dress shoes. Female chauffeurs are to wear a similar “uniform”, as appropriate. Inclement weather allows for some leniency.

Our chauffeurs are not in a hurry. Their priority is comfort and safety. So, they are expected to accelerate, brake, and corner as smoothly and as effortlessly as possible.

The interior and exterior of the vehicle are to be cleaned and maintained by the chauffeur before, after, and throughout a reservation. There is usually enough down time on hourly trips to ensure that any messes already created by a client are tidied up before anyone re-enters the vehicle.

The interior temperature and ambiance should be quiet and comforting. Clients do have full control of the temperature and the radio volume and station in our Flagship SUV, but it is standard at the outset of a trip to have the temperature preset to around 68-70 degrees, the radio volume on a very low level for light background noise, and the station set to a non-offensive and generally acceptable genre like SiriusXM’s The Blend.

Chauffeurs also must have a deep knowledge of the bars, restaurants, and attractions in the Cleveland area and be ready to make any recommendations on the fly.

Knowledge and awareness of traffic and traffic flow is key, along with having a keen sense of direction and being able to navigate sans GPS. Still, it is recommended that chauffeurs utilize Waze and have a Bluetooth earpiece to discreetly listen to voice directions.

Our chauffeurs do not smoke or vape. If they do, they will do so on their own time, away from the vehicle, and not wearing the clothes they wear to drive.

They will default to speaking only when spoken to, but will read situations and be adept at engaging in conversation as circumstances require.

Discretion and privacy is paramount for clients and no information from conversations will be shared outside of the vehicle or on social media. This includes the prohibition of taking selfies with clients unless the client actually initiates the request for some reason.

There is no reason to settle for anything less than the above expectations from a limo operator!

  • Many limo companies and car services in an area proclaim themselves to be the absolute best around, sometimes baselessly. We like to merely strive for actual greatness and will instead allow our customers to speak for us regarding their assessment of our service. You can view some of these unadulterated customer reviews HERE.

If you’ve already used our service and would like to leave a kind review yourself, please feel free to submit a GOOGLE or META (FACEBOOK) review by clicking on either or both links.

Of course, if your review is going to be less than stellar for any reason, we certainly feel it would be completely fair if we were first given the courtesy to hear of any such issues and have the explicit opportunity to address them and offer any rectification to your satisfaction. Please contact us by one of the methods HERE to discuss any such instance further.
